“On the eighth day shall be a holy convocation to you” (Lev 23:26)

The eighth day after the seven days of  Succoth ,is  the Convocation Day (Shemini Atzeret). The Samaritan tradition consider this day as a “Little Yom Kipur”  as it mention this day with a long and special  prayer , which is the longest prayer of the year.the prayes8170401225_7c6d8c45a2_o ends while the Priests , along with the Scrolls of the Torah and the community members, encompasses the neighborhood, while praying and singing, as it was written by the most important Samaritan scribe from the 4th century B.C.E , Markeh , blessed be his soul:

“We won’t walk with the Scroll of the Torah, but while singing and praising” 

This feast is also ending all the year feasts. after this holiday, the Succoth are dismantled, the fruits are squeezed and, We return to the routine life, till the next feast, on this beautiful circle of  the  year. 

The next Portion of the week, right after the fest will be “Bereshit”.
