The Festival of the seventh month parallels the jewish tradition of their New Year (Rosh Ha-Shana):
“And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: Speak unto the children of Israel, saying: In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall be a solemn rest unto you, a memorial proclaimed with the blast of horns, a holy convocation” (Leviticus 23:23)
“In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a holy convocation ” (Num 29:1)
Unlike Jews, the Samaritan calendar , starts in the First month of the years. The Seventh month is the first month of the cycle of fallow’s years, which take place each seven years. The fifty years in this fallow’s cycle, is The Jubilee Year, as it written in the Torah :
“And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout the land unto all the inhabitants thereof; it shall be a jubilee unto you” (Leviticus 25:10)
The first day if the seventh month is mentioned by a special prayer in the synagogue, which includes mentions of the Seventh month and the day of pardons (selichot).
After the prayer of this day, all the worshippers go to the priest’s homes, to greed them , and to be blessed for the next holidays.
This festival is also, the first day of The Ten Days Of Pardons (Selichot) , which end at Yom Kipur ( The Day Of Atonement).
On this days, the Samaritans have a special prayers, every evening and morning, called the prayers of forgiveness and mercy, which ends at Yom Kipur.
